  • Extreme gamer makeover: Garage Edition

Posted on November 25th, 2005 Rob No comments

I am a married fellow with 3 kids, and the fact is is that the only room of the house that is truly mine is the garage. Sure it's not air conditioned, and its poorly lit, but hey, its better that being outside, right?? We bought our house in 2000, and I had this great plan to have one whole wall consist of shelves to store large plastic tubs of stuff, holiday decorations, etc. and then game in the middle of the room. Within a year I had a few mismatched plastic shelves and a large (4X8) gaming table. Not too bad, but it could have been better. Much better it turned out. In fact, I hadn't even considered the fact that all of my light was being provided by one single bulb hanging from the ceiling. The stifling summer heat was pretty miserable, too.

  • Legendary artist Keith Parkinson recently passed away

Posted on November 22nd, 2005 Highland_Piper No comments

Upon Graduating from Kendall School of Design in 1980, Keith took a staff artist position at a company called Advertising Posters. Contrary to the way it sounds the company had nothing to do with advertising or posters. They were silk screen printers that printed and generated all the art for the pinball, and blossoming arcade video industry. Keith had a hand in the artwork of many of the most popular games that mark the beginning of the video game industry. TSR was the next stop. During a five year stint as a TSR staff artist he contributed to a wide variety of projects.

    Bone of Hobbit-like species uncovered

(AP) — Scientists say they have found more bones in an Indonesian cave that offer additional evidence of a second human species — short and hobbit-like — that roamed the Earth the same time as modern man.

But the vocal scientific minority that has challenged that conclusion since the discovery of Homo floresiensis was announced last year remains unconvinced.

The discovery of a jaw bone, to be reported in Thursdays issue of the journal Nature, represents the ninth individual belonging to a group believed to have lived as recently as 12,000 years ago. The bones are in a wet cave on the island of Flores in the eastern limb of the Indonesian archipelago, near Australia.

In 2004, scientists announced their original, sensational discovery of a delicate skull and partial skeleton of a female, nicknamed “Hobbit” and believed to be 18,000 years old. In addition, they found separate bones and fragments of other individuals ranging in age from 12,000 to 95,000 years old.
