The mammoth stage production of “The Lord of the Rings,” which was mostly panned by critics, is closing in Toronto.
Producer Kevin Wallace said Wednesday that the $24 million, 3 1/2 hour show will close September 3.”We’re doing respectable but were not sold out. The scale of this show needs that,” producer David Mirvish said at a news conference. “The costs are 50 percent more than ‘The Lion King’ to run so it (the theater) must be full.”

Fantascene Hobbit Holes
Posted on May 19th, 2006 No commentsRecently, I received an email from a company in England asking for a link exchange. Ever the curious soul, I checked it out. I was greeted with a very good looking "hobbit hole". I'm a HUGE LoTR fan and have way more models than my wife thinks any normal (or abnormal) person should have. I checked out the site: Fantascene and emailed the owner (Geoff) back.

History of Arranged Marriages
Posted on March 7th, 2006 No commentsNote – i thought this article would be a great resource for those roleplaying in a standard fantasy/medieval setting. Is has a little of everything, law, religion, money, and can help flesh out the private lives of your NPC villagers. I think we should come up with some adventure hooks in the comments. – Hamster
A History of Single Life Consenting Adults
by Ken Mondschein February 3, 2006A series about hooking up through the ages. The fundamental assumption of single life is that were free to date, sleep with, and marry whomever we choose. This idea is so ingrained in our culture that no one seriously questions it, no matter how much of an asshole we think our sisters boyfriend is. Besides, without the fundamental right of choosing with whom we get romantically involved, wed never have developed great social customs like Internet personals or rebelling against your parents by coming home at three a.m. on the back of a Harley-Davidson.

Quest for Glory
Posted on February 22nd, 2006 No commentsby John Walker, as published in The Escapist
There are conventions in media we become perfectly used to, despite their having no place in reality. If we watch a movie, and someone is given CPR in the street, on the beach or dangling on a rope from a hot air balloon, we know they’ll come back to life. Never mind that CPR merely sustains things until proper medical equipment arrives – we know, and accept, that with a couple of compressions and a few puffs in the mouth, they’ll be up and about and back to shooting zombies in a couple of minutes.
All romantic comedies will end in life-lasting true love, and all soap operas will have a 100% relationship failure rate. All cops will announce, “there’s no time for back up!” when they arrive at the scene of a crime, before being asked to hand in their gun and badge to the furious captain (what with the governor being in town) on a weekly basis. All aliens are bipedal, and of all the languages spoken on Earth, choose English. Shopping bags always contain a long stick of French bread. And if you bump into someone of the opposite sex carrying a large stack of files, you will fall in love while picking them up. These are truths.

Repairing Plastic Miniatures
Posted on February 20th, 2006 No commentsI'm going to show you how to fix your plastic miniatures using an old method most people use on their metal miniatures. The technique is called "Pinning". To pin something is to use a rod of metal of various thickness, depending on the size of the figure, to secure or fasten another part two it. Kind of like graphing. Most large figures will have a post and a hole (male and female part) when you glue them together. Well if a figure breaks you basically do the exact same thing.

Wargames Journal: now a downloadable pdf
Posted on February 8th, 2006 No commentsThe well known internet wargames e-magazine "Wargames Journal" looks to be taking a new direction. Instead of being a website where you go to different web pages to see different articles, they now seem set to produce the e-magazine as a downloadable e-mag in the same vein as "Fictional Reality".
The first issue, weighing in at almost 10Mb is absolutely superb, 109 pages of great scenarios, articles and reports. Well worth downloading since it covers all facets of the gaming hobby.
