  • First Battle Report: Lions vs Griffins

Posted on September 6th, 2004 Rob No comments

I just got back from playing my very first game of Confrontation! It took place at my LGS here in Rochester, against The English Confrontation Forums very own Wrathmaur (i.e. Carter Brent).

I've been slowly assembling a Lion force for the past two months and was itching to see my fully painted pack of Guards in action. I asked that Wrath bring his Griffin to the battle so that I could have an opponent with a human face to learn against. (I'm still freaked out by his Devourers!)

We played a 200 point game with no magic.

  • Multipart Plastics: Zvezda VS Games Workshop

Posted on September 2nd, 2004 Rob No comments

I am always looking for something different to put on the wargame table, something that will fit in with the scale I already use (28mm give or take) but will illicit "oohs" and "ahhs" from the jaded gameboys I so often play against. Of course, anything I can buy that also "sticks it to the man (Games Workshop)" is a plus. Here is one possible outlet: "Ring of Rule" figures by Zvezda.

Fans of science fiction, anime, comics and medieval weaponry were wondering yesterday why one of the longest-running and most popular booths at the Canadian Comic Book Expo had disappeared.

"I was kind of looking forward to seeing those guys again," said Gary Loyst, who recalled a display from last years Expo that featured tables stacked with swords, daggers, maces and war hammers. "I'd never seen weapons like that sold before."

  • Toronto GW Games Day 2004 Review.

Posted on August 16th, 2004 Rob No comments

Every year, my oldest daughter and I have a day out and go to the GW Games day. This annual event is her favourite day of the year. Not so much for the show but for the time we spend together. Its always been fun with lots to do and get.

This year however, it was inadequate. GW decided to change the venue from the usual Toronto International Center to the Centrally located Toronto Convention Center. The downtown location had the benefit of external food vendors. You could pop outside for hot dog and fries from the street vendors instead of the awful, over-priced (yet traditional) food from the inside seller.

    Maps in Minutes you say?

Well yes I did. Nothing has improved my RPG expereince since getting the Campaign Cartographer series of software. Profantasy Software Ltd made it even easier when they came out with Fractal Terrains.

What used to take weeks to build now takes moments. I have made a few example maps to show just how wonderful the product is!

  • Paintier 80 Review

Posted on July 7th, 2004 Rob No comments

Let me preface this review by saying that I sell these, so I'm a little biased. I really believe though, that I should use what I sell so that I can judge the worth and quality of the items from a consumers point of view.

The Paintier comes in in a heavy corrugated box that would provide good basing material for terrain builders. Shipping weight is listed at 5lbs (which I didn't check manually)

The box is well packed without any wasted space or packing material.

  • New 40K Rules Coming

Posted on June 8th, 2004 Rob No comments

    From the GW site:
In case you haven't heard yet, a new era of war is dawning. An updated version of Warhammer 40,000 is on its way. Please note that the new rulebook isn’t a brand new game, rather a refinement of the existing rules:

    • The new rulebook is a rules update not a complete overhaul of the rule system
    • Your Codex does not become obsolete
    • With army lists not changing, your army is sound and will not need changing

We've added the information to our Download Section

Note: All info is copywrited by Games Workshop… Blah blah blah.
